The Visionary KPro is constructed in three layers, where two outer layers of pHEMA envelop a core PMMA layer. pHEMA enhances biocompatibility providing the Visionary KPro with a soft, hydrophilic surface. The inner core of the device is made of molded PMMA that provides the Visionary KPro with intergal structural support. Along the surface of the skirt, 8 suture holes work to simplify the surgical implantation and post-operational biointegration processes.
The Visionary KPro incorporates a nanopillar and microgroove design. Microgooves promote cell adhesion and growth, which aids the post-operative biointegration process into a patient's natural tissue. Additionally, nanopillars prevent cell growth that could lead to the unwanted vascularization of the optical core. The nanopillars contribute to the Visionary KPro's antibacterial properties by inducing physical deformation and lysis in bacteria that come into contact with the tapered, pointed ends of the nanopillars.
